Known as “mobility as a service”, this solution provides an easy way for people to leave their cars at home and travel around the city using environmentally friendly forms of transport. Crucially, they can mix and match during their journey, combining different ways of travelling, seamlessly. The app even shows the CO2 consumption of each connection by means of transport, so people can make informed choices.
"For those who want to travel in Bonn in an environmentally friendly way, BONNmobil bundles different mobility solutions in one app. This is what customers want today and it will become the standard in the coming years," Anja Wenmakers, Managing Director of SWB Bus und Bahn, is convinced.
"To strengthen the environmental system, we need not only vehicles, but also digital solutions. The easier the system, the more likely Bonn residents are to choose our public transport services," says head of transport Helmut Wiesner, emphasising the benefits of digital services for the transport revolution.
Scheidt & Bachmann technology played a critical role in the creation of the new, integrated mobility app, which makes travelling around Bonn easier than ever for users: with just one registration, all rides can be seamlessly combined, used and paid for. The integration of mobility providers, customer data and payment information were carried by the leading ticketing technology provider, and enables central services such as registration, booking and billing.
"We want to contribute to making sustainable mobility easy. BONNmobil is a good example of this: thanks to our technology, passengers can use all connected mobility services with just one registration and one app. We are very proud that we can actively support climate-friendly mobility in Bonn," explains Mike Ax, Managing Director at Scheidt & Bachmann.
How BONNmobil works:
Whether it's the SWB electric scooter CLARA or a ticket for line 66, everything is handled in one app. "Most people would not believe how much work it takes in terms of legal and data protection law to combine different mobility providers and payment options in an app in a customer-friendly way," says Stadtwerke Bonn project manager Georg Bechthold, as he demonstrates the application at a press event.
To make everything as convenient and legally compliant as possible at the front end, allowing users to link all journeys with just one registration and use all payment methods, a whole host of coordination work is required in the background before technology can work its magic.
Comments from the other project partners:
"TAF is proud to deliver a solution for the digital ticket of the 'BONNmobil' app. Together with Stadtwerke Bonn and other project partners, we want to make it as easy as possible for people to be mobile and climate-friendly even without their own car. The components of our solution are elementary for convenient use and thus high acceptance," emphasises Sylvia Lier, Managing Director of TAF Mobility.
Peter Russ, Regional Manager Rhine & Main at TIER Mobility: "As a long-standing partner of SWB, we are pleased to be part of the new BONNmobil app and thus to link public transport and micromobility more closely. Together, we want to advance the traffic turnaround in Bonn and reduce inner-city car traffic."
